Re: Happy Birthday Peter Tosh |
What a great voice, too. I remember having the Legalize It album in high school, and just being in awe of how someone could be so brazen :-). I remember there was an hour-long tribute on public radio the day after he was killed (KQED). At the time I recorded it on a good old Maxell 90, but its long gone now. Speaking of reggae, KPFA in Berkeley used to have a fantastic reggae program that used to take me to another world in the carefree summer days of high school.

Re: Happy Birthday Peter Tosh |
PG , this is a thread in my happy zone . I wish I was able to see him live . With all respect to Bob Marley , Peter Tosh is my fav reggae musician . He had an edge and honesty to his music that I love .
So many stories , but I'll go with this from the One Love Peace Concert in '78 . Tosh took the opportunity during his performance to berate the two political leaders ( Manley and Seaga ) sitting directly in front of him for their positions during this time of violent political conflict in Jamaica . Much of the protest movement in Jamaica ( and Pan - Africanism ) resulted in the legendary reggae music of the '70's . Tosh was later beaten and imprisoned for this speech .
